I wanted to get everyones thoughts on mobile marketing.
This sort of marketing has been waiting to explode for a long time now.
Two companies seem to be doing this now.
Google and admob.
I’ve used mobile marketing in the past and had some great results and also very negative results.
InternetWeek writes about mobile marketing in the United States.
The article quotes the opinion of Nihal Mehta, founder and CEO of Ipsh:
We’re finally seeing a significant tipping point. People aren’t just testing it anymore, they’re starting to see return on investment.”
However Jupiter Research analyst Julie Ask has an opposite view:
“The majority of online adults is not interested in receiving promotions via SMS, even if they receive free or discounted goods and services, are assured that their privacy will be protected and don’t have to pay for the messages.”
Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Probably the truth, as usual, stands in the middle.
I’ve been pushing the mobile concept since March 06. If done right, the results will be positive (rather than negative), yet the start up investment is costly -not because of $$$ but because of the allocation of limited resources. Competitors are pushing it hard these days (11/7/06), so it should work for their respective business models.
It isn't the hundreds of ideas, that pop up in the minds of humans around the globe that make money. Very few ideas are worth the time it took for the thought. Most ideas are fleeting "sparks" that go no place and are forgotten before the next day. Of the ideas that are good, very few are followed up and ever end up as a worthwhile development in the market place. Most people are just not oriented to do anything about their ideas, while others believe it would take too much of their time and money to follow through to completion. This leaves the market place wide open for the ones who learn how to "Create" Profitable Ideas!

Timing is crucial too.
